Today, businesses rely on the Internet for their productivity, efficiency, customer interaction, and financial success. At the same time, the Internet has become a source of network threats from benign to severe, including viruses, spyware, phishing, and other malicious threats. Once a teenager vandal's playground, it has transitioned into a world of opportunity for cyber-criminals and organized crime.

TrendMicro led the migration of virus protection from the desktop-to-gateway and from application layer-to-network layer, gaining a reputation for vision and technological innovation along the way: Trend Micro Enterprise Protection Strategy (EPS). The company focuses on outbreak prevention and providing customers with a comprehensive approach to managing the outbreak lifecycle and the impact of network worms and virus threats to productivity and information.

Since 2004, Trend Micro and Cisco are working very closely together as they agree that the combination of Trend’s threat expertise and rapid response capability with Cisco’s networking leadership is the optimal way to address, mitigate and resolve the fundamental problem of viruses and worms that use network protocols and exploits to self-launch and propagate. Within the OneDefense program Comstor focuses on the Trend Anti-X Solutions for the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances (ASA).

So, how do customers benefit from this alliance?
  • Simplified Management – Customers will be able to use the same management methodology to manage Cisco IDS appliances and Trend Micro products.
  • Simplified Support – Rather then have several vendors providing several different virus and worm signatures, customers now can get IDS signatures and virus threat support from the same source.
  • Operation Predictability – Cisco’s IDS signatures and policies will be delivered in conjunction with Trend Micro’s outbreak lifecycle approach – allowing network security and Anti Virus security process and procedures to be standardized.

Solutions
  • Network Admission Control : the seamlessly integrated NAC solution allows network access to endpoint clients such as PCs, PDAs and servers only after they are verified to be fully compliant with established security policy.
  • Intrusion Detection and Prevention: Trend Micro network virus/worm signatures have been integrated with the Cisco IDS and IPS software deployed with Cisco IOS Software-based routers, Cisco catalyst switches and network security appliances.
  • Incident Control Services : by integrating Trend Micro’s network virus/worm technologies and threat intelligence, Cisco ICS leverages existing investments in Cisco network devices to provide rapid response and prevent new worm and network virus outbreaks.
  • Comprehensive Internet Edge Security : By integrating firewall and VPN with anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-spyware, anti-phising and content filtering engines, the ASA5500 and CSC-SSM bring complete gateway protection into a single easily deployable and centrally managed package.
